Kodak has announced the latest iteration of its PULSE Digital Frame. The frame now features social network integration, allowing users to comment on pictures received and connect to pictures on Facebook and Kodak Gallery.

NPR aired a report recently about electricity waste with tech products, specifically digital picture frames. They’re right, as we’ve said all along, most digital frames waste an extreme amount of energy since they’re rarely turned off. And while we praise those that offer auto shutoff features, very few include that option.

Digital Foci has announced the Photo Book, an 8″ portable digital picture frame and photo storage device. The 8″ display features a high 800×600 pixel resolution and a 4GB internal storage drive. An internal battery keeps the display running for 2.5 hours.

Photo printers embedded into digital frames are nothing new, we reviewed a Smartparts unit that does such a thing last year. The AMEX effort brings in a 7″ widescreen display that offers multimedia playback.
D-Link Partners With Cellcom to Get Cell Phone Photos on the DSM-210

D-Link has paired with mobile service provider Cellcom (Wisconsin) to let Cellcom customers send camera phone pictures straight to the D-Link DSM-210 digital picture frame. This is all accomplished through the FrameChannel service and without fees, something carriers like T-Mobile could learn from.

Every now and again we see digital picture frames embedded into objects that were otherwise okay without the added features. The Christmas ornament with tiny digital frame comes to mind. But this is especially odd, if for no other reason than coffee cups just shouldn’t have to be plugged into a computer for full functionality.

AMEX Digital has announced two new 7″ widescreen digital picture frames, the SR-7 and SW-7. Both do more than just display photos; the SR-7 features a dual alarm clock, indoor thermometer and multimedia playback. The SW-7 doubles as a weather station with localized weather data.

Never heard of Aequitas Technologies? Until my review sample of the iGala – a brand new 8″ digital picture frame with Wi-Fi, a touch screen, and a few other unique widgets and gizmos – showed up a few weeks back, I hadn’t either. “Aequitas,” name of the Virginia-based parent company behind the iGala, comes from the Latin word for “justice.” We’re not sure what that means in the context of digital picture frames, but Aequitas’s ability to get noticed in a crowded market full of manufacturers you’ve never heard of by offering features like a touch screen and slick internet integrations makes them seem like a company worth checking out.
