Review: HANNspree SD7021
Written on Jan 5, 2009 by Adama Brown and filed under Featured, HANNspree, Reviews
The HANNspree SD7021 is a 7″ budget frame that is entirely about being low-cost. You won’t find many features here and the frame cuts costs further by using a low resolution display. But a 7″ frame with a retail of $40 might be appealing enough to some.

Written on Jul 3, 2008 by Brian and filed under News
United States port officials are rejecting shipments of up to one million digital picture frames from China due to concerns over fire. There have been a rash of complaints recently as low-end off-brand frames sold at retailers like Best Buy and Wal-mart have spontaneously caught on fire.
GreenHouse Releases Heart-Shaped Digital Picture Frame
Written on Jul 2, 2008 by Brian and filed under News
In many ways, thank goodness this is a Japan-only release at the moment. The GreenHouse GHV-DF24HT goes for roughly $56, but thankfully comes with other snap-on frames should a giant pink heart not be what you’re after. Of course the design is great for Valentines I suppose, or other romantic events, but even then, at this price you could do better.

It’s not always about a large display panel and tons of features. For many, selecting a digital picture frame is a function of cost. Nextar appeals to this market with the N3-505, a 3.5″ digital frame with a bright 320×240 pixel display and 32MB of on-board memory, good for 50 images.

Sony’s CP-1, currently only planned for Japan, has made its way to Opera’s headquarters where it’s been played with, and thankfully video recorded, by Opera’s CEO Jon von Tetzchner. His take? “It’s Awesome!”
7″ Panels Decreasing in Cost - Could Spur More 7″ Digital Frames
Written on Jun 25, 2008 by Brian and filed under News
Currently digital picture frames come in all shapes and sizes, but we could see some semblance of standardization based on the cost to create the display panels. New data suggests that 7″ frames are in for more price cuts, which could encourage frame manufacturers to move to that size instead of 8″ and other close variations.
32″ Digital Picture Frame is a Waste of $840
Written on Jun 25, 2008 by Brian and filed under News
In the digital photo frame market there are two real categories of product. First are frames that actually have a unique feature set and second is the mass of frames that are relatively indistinguishable from each other. Perhaps there’s a third category, those that are flat out a waste of a perfectly good LCD panel.
Review: Sony DPF-D70 7″ Digital Photo Frame
Written on Jun 24, 2008 by Brian and filed under Reviews, Sony
Sony offers a trio of digital picture frames; the DPF-D70 is a 7” “entry-level” frame. Entry-level for Sony at least, for most others it would be top of the line. Sony didn’t exactly pack the D70 with features, but a tremendous display and reasonable on-board memory make it an instant favorite in the 7” size.

Written on Jun 22, 2008 by Brian and filed under News
If you’re anything like me, you often struggle to find a home for used and nearly obsolete tech products. While I won’t be converting any of my old laptops to digital frames, lack of technical skill and patience prevent such a project, the team over at Inside My Laptop has done the dirty work.
Frame Media Fires Back at Ceiva, “Your Patent Isn’t Valid Anyway”
Written on Jun 20, 2008 by Brian and filed under Ceiva, Frame Media, News
Frame Media has issued a press release indicating they plan in fighting Cevia’s claim that Frame Media is infinging on their patent that essentially covers serving images to a digital picture frame over a network of some kind. The patent was issued in 1999 and does appear to be a bit broad by today’s standards.
Digital Picture Frame Forecasts Get Trimmed
Written on Jun 19, 2008 by Brian and filed under News
According to a report from DigiTimes, digital picture frame display panel manufacturers are forecasting at least a 25% reduction in shipments this year. A sharp decline in shipments in the first quarter of 2008 paint a slower growth plan for digital frame sales. Of course the economy and weak Mother’s Day sales are to blame.
