AMEX Digital just released weather station and alarm clock digital picture frames; this time it’s a digital frame with printer than will be coming out. Photo printers embedded into digital frames are nothing new, we reviewed a Smartparts unit that does such a thing last year. The AMEX effort brings in a 7″ widescreen display that offers multimedia playback.

While AMEX didn’t disclose anything about the printer, the unit looks nearly the same as the Smartparts frame. For $50 more than the current retail of the Smartparts frame, it remains to be seen how well the AMEX Sp-7 performs. We haven’t found the ink cost and print quality to be justifiable though to date.

Otherwise, the frame features a 7″ widescreen display with 800×480 pixel resolution. There’s also a multi-card reader that handles MS, MMC, SD, XD and CF cards, along with USB drive and miniUSB support. The SP-7 also includes a speaker and multimedia support for JPG, AVI, Mpeg1,2,4 and MP3 files. There’s no mention of how much internal memory is included.

The AMEX Digital SP-7 will retail for $199.99.

AMEX Digital has announced two new 7″ widescreen digital picture frames, the SR-7 and SW-7. Both do more than just display photos; the SR-7 features a dual alarm clock, indoor thermometer and multimedia playback. The SW-7 doubles as a weather station with localized weather data.

AMEX Digital SR-7

The SR-7 features a 7″ widescreen display with a 800×480 pixel resolution. The distinguishing features include a radio controlled clock with quartz backup, dual alarm and digital indoor thermometer. Of course it does the standard photo display thing, along with multimedia playback that includes support for JPG, AVI, Mpeg1,2,4 and MP3 files. Photos and media files can be stored on an undisclosed amount of internal memory or accessed via multi-card reader which includes support for SD, xD, MMC, MS and CF cards. The frame also includes a USB port. Other features of note include adjustable brightness controls, calendar function and remote control. The SR-7 comes in a black and silver design. Pricing and availability have not been announced.

AMEX Digital SW-7

The SW-7 includes most of the same photo and media hardware as the SR-7 and throws in a bunch of weather features. The weather display includes a load of information including a current weather forecast icon (sunny, cloudy, slightly cloudy, rainy, stormy, snowy), barometric pressure trend indicator, inside/outside temperature and humidity historical date chart and sunrise/sunset, moonrise/moonset time and sun/moon location display. The SW-7 comes in black. Pricing and availability have not been announced.
