7″ Panels Decreasing in Cost - Could Spur More 7″ Digital Frames

Written on Jun 25, 2008 by Brian and filed under News

Currently digital picture frames come in all shapes and sizes, but we could see some semblance of standardization based on the cost to create the display panels. New data suggests that 7″ frames are in for more price cuts, which could encourage frame manufacturers to move to that size instead of 8″ and other close variations.

Not long ago 7″ panels where wholesaling for $30 each, at which point demand started to curtail. Now prices are at $25 and could be headed toward $20 in the second half of this year.

7″ seems like a reasonably good middle-ground between the tiny 3.5″ models and 9″+ larger format photo frames. That size is perfect for a desk ormost places around the home. For an in-depth look at Sony’s latest 7″ frame, check the full Sony DPF-D70 review. [DigiTimes]
