Softbank Mobile Japan to Release 3G Digital Picture Frame

Written on May 19, 2009 by Brian and filed under News

Obviously learning nothing from T-Mobile’s failed experiment with the Cameo, it looks like Softbank will release a digital picture frame this summer with embedded wireless data card. Of course the promise is to easily and quickly be able to deliver photos to the frame via email, MMS message and the like, but once you add in the cost of the data plan, the value just isn’t there. Softbank does have a twist though, one of the frames comes skinned with Hello Kitty. Maybe T-Mobile should have tried NASCAR?

From the looks of it, the display is pretty bad, which is consistent with what we saw with the Cameo. Network connected frames like this are destined to fail, especially when WiFi over a home network is just as easy and comes without the monthly fees. Still, we like the effort, and the pink.
