Samsung SPF-87H & SPF-107H Digital Picture Frames Announced

Written on Apr 9, 2009 by Brian and filed under News, Samsung

After starting to look like they were re-thinking being in the digital picture frame business, Samsung has announced the new SPF-87H. The 8″ frame offers an 800×480 widescreen resolution and Samsung’s high-end design treatment called “Touch of Color.” The SPF-107H will likely follow in the same mold at a 10″ frame size.

The SPF-87H is also very thin, coming in at a trim 23mm. It includes an internal battery and can be powered and charged with the included AC adaptor or over USB connection to a computer. You’ll also find the standard multi-card reader and 1GB of internal memory which is good for storing over 3,000 resized photos.

Samsung’s going to take another crack at the secondary monitor idea. They had offered this in their last series of frames, but in our review unit we could never get it to work and shortly after Samsung had the virus problem and these frames seemed to disappear form the market. The promise of being able to use a digital frame as a secondary display for a computer is a fantastic idea, we just hope the execution works out better this time around. Other features include slideshow and clock modes.

Samsung also announced the SPF-107H but divulged little about this model. We can only assume it’s a 10″ frame with likely similar features to the 87H.

The Samsung SPF-87H will be released globally this month with the SPF-107H to follow in May. No pricing information was released.
