Samsung SPF-85H Spreading Computer Virus

Written on Dec 24, 2008 by Brian and filed under News

The Samsung SPF-85H is in the giving spirit, just the wrong kind. This 8″ frame that was recently released has been spreading a virus known as W32.Sality.AE on computers with Windows XP that used version 1.08 of Samsung’s frame software. Windows Vista users were not affected.

Thankfully the virus can be easily removed. If your virus program hasn’t caught it already, update the definitions and scan again or download one of many free virus solutions. Then remove the application and install the updated version. It also appears that Samsung has pulled the frames from market to make sure any of the SPF-85H units with the offending software are updated before going back into retail.

Perhaps it’s the season. About a year ago BestBuy’s house brand of Insignia frames were guilty of spreading viruses and removed from store shelves for a period of time.

Here is the official announcement and update instructions from Samsung.
