Help! I see no answer to those who posted that their frame does not seem to recongize their sd card. And I too have inserted several to see if there is just one that works. Nope my frame does not seem to be working correctly.

Finally figured out how to overcome the inefficiencies of the digital frame. I bought a cheap generic card reader. Lined up all of the photos that I wanted and put them into separate folders (according to subject)in a master picture folder on my desktop computer. I then copied the folders onto the card in the card reader (2gb) that I had purchased. As soon as the pix were on the card I then put the card into the digital frame and voila! Success! The pictures are grouped according to the folders and they maintain their position in the lineup.

Remember at the point that you stop looking at pictures and shut down, when you start up again the pictures will start from the position you left off.

This process is a lot easier then using the controls in the frame, too slow too coumbersome and totally frustrating. A $10.00 card reader and the cost of a 2meg card and I have all of the pictures at my fingertips, and I can change them with little or no trouble.

To add, remove, or re-position pictures use the card reader and your desktop computer, the card reader acts as a removable storage device.

Have fun!!!

Trial and error worked for me. Followed the procedure card in the HP, pictures in a file on the desktop of the PC, ctrlA highlighted all of the pictures, turned on hp activated middle switch , menu came upm selected "connect to PC" did so, went to pix file on desktop and moved pix to "Drive E" Voila!!! success the pictures moved like a charm.
Thanks to all who have helped me stumble and fumble my way to this point. Not only do I have a digital frame, but I have a puzzle to solve. What a deal two for one!

Read your posting of 2008... How did you get this infernal machine to access the menu?

The button on the left is the power/on-off, the middle button changes the mode from slide show, thumbnail, browse; the toggle on the left moves the pictures from frame to frame..

How do I access the menu.

Thanks for your help in advance,

First off, I'm very happy with my hp df300a3. Good price and very good display. I just wanted to know what is the maximum size SD card supported by this model? I can't find any info about this after numerous online searches.

I am also having this problem. I bought two of these digital frames and can not even get onto them to load one photo! The manual has no troubleshooting help, which isnt shocking since the manual is not helpful at all. Plan on returning both and buying another brand. HP Certainly can make a pretty item, just not usable.

I just transfered my pictures from my PC to SmartParts Frame SPX7E after receiving the message "Key is temporarily inoperative”. I opened my photo on the PC and selected send to E: link, worked like a charm!

Well, after much frustration, I have figured out how to transfer photos from my Mac to the df300. My photos are stored on an SD card that is currently in the HP unit. First, while the HP is NOT attached to the computer, turn it on and change the setting to "Connect to PC" -- YES. THEN connect the unit to your PC or Mac via USB cord. This will add a drive to your PC (Mine was called Lisa's Pics, because my husband had already pre-loaded some photos as part of my gift). The drive just popped up by itself. All the photos on the card were listed there, and I was able to drag & drop many more photos that I had in my files. When you are done, eject the drive, disconnect the unit, and voila! you are good to go. Worked like a charm.

I think this frame is horrible. I cannot get it to power on!! I have charged it twice overnight. Once through my computer and then throught my ac adapter. This is ridiculous and this product is very inferior.

Noone's using the forum so I'll post here too.

Unbelieveable that I can't transfer pics to this frame....to the SD card OR the internal memory! Mine does NOT show up as a USB mass storage device. I have the df300a3. Is that a different model??

HP, what are you thinking??

I wish I had time to take this back, but I'm about to give it to someone as a gift. Bummer.

Does anyone know why the pictures are out of sort order when viewing them?
This is true in slide show and in brose.....Even the thumbnails are not in the same order as how I initially set them up, (by transferring the pictures from my PC to the memory card) I want the pictures to stay in the order that I put them in !

the reason that the connect to PC prompts inoperative keys is because as the manual doesnt tell. You can't connect from the PC directly to the internal memory. You have to purchase a SD card

I'm disappointed that the internal memory is so small, especially since 100GB can be crammed into a USB flash drive/stick these days.

Leaving out the functionality of transferring my (edited to accommodate the limited memory) photos directly from PC to the frame is definitely a huge negative for me. It means a time consuming task of copying each photo one at a time from the SD card to the internal memory.

And that pesky “Key is temporarily inoperative” .... that just means you can't use the frame while it is connected to the PC folks. It's to stop you fiddling with the frame while you are transferring photos from the PC to the SD card!

I’m disappointed that the internal memory is so small, especially since 100GB can be crammed into a USB flash drive/stick these days.

Leaving out the functionality of transferring my (edited to accommodate the limited memory) photos directly from PC to the frame is definitely a huge negative for me. It means a time consuming task of copying each photo one at a time from the SD card to the internal memory.

My home computer has card reader slots but with other computers I use a seperate cardreader to put the SD card into and then transfer the pictures from the computer to the card. Then put the card in and go show off the pictures

I was so looking forward to using this gadget as my digital picture wallet. However, all the previous mentioned negatives are so true. HP, please give us the capability of direct pc download onto the internal memory with increased capacity in the SD slot. Also, a removable, rechargable battery would be better. If these attributes were on my frame, I wouldn't be returning it.

It is my understanding that first I need to put picture from the computer to SD card and after that use SD card on my HP Frame. However, I don't know how to transfer picture from the computer (MacBook) to SD card. Thanks in advance for your help.

We bought this frame for my grandmother and it has been a headache from the start. Currently we are getting, “key is temporarily inoperative!” I'm tired of fussing with this device.

Here's a thought. HP, make a device with internal memory that connects to your pc which allows you to drag and drop photos with ease. Add the SD slot only if extra memory is needed. It's not rocket-science.

This HP DF300 frame WILL be returned.

Grrrr!

I'm surprised by all the negative reviews -- I LOVE my little df300! I got exactly what I was looking for -- a way to share photos easily with friends and family who have no, or limited, access to my web-based albums. It's compact, highly portable, has excellent screen resolution and color, and offers several viewing options. It seems many of the negative comments result from erroneous expectations about what this device is (and isn't).

The df300 has the thumbnail view that allows you to see 6 images at once. Yes you still have to press the > for each thumb but it is a lot faster than scrolling through and viewing each one till you get to the image you wish to pause on. In the thumbnail view it also tells you how many pages there are and what page you are on. If the image you want is on page 6of6 and you are on page 1of6 then hit the < button and you are all set. If it had cost a lot of money i would complain too. Don't buy a scion then complain it is not an impreza.

I'm sorry if this sounds curt, but did anyone bother reading the manual?

You cannot transfer photos directly from your computer to the DF300's internal memory (this is stated in the manual) via direct USB connection.

The USB direct connection will transfer photos from your computer to an SD card in the DF300 only (making the DF300 a somewhat pseudo-SD card interface).
