Prinics Digital Photo Frame Printer Introduced

Written on Sep 2, 2008 by Staff Writer and filed under News, Prinics

Prinics has announced a new digital photo frame that includes a 5×7 photo printer.  They claim to be the first one to have a frame with printer, but we’ve also seen a digital picture frame with printer from Smartparts.  Either way, I’m not going to take the effort to see who was really first – we all know how some companies throw these claims around.  Anyway, Prinics offers both a 7″ display model and one with an 8″ display.  No details yet on pricing or availability.

Prinics has developed a self-contained print cartridge that is easy to replace and a stacking system that holds up to 12 photos.  You can get 36 prints per cartridge, but we have no idea how much a new cartridge will cost.

The photo printer can print full 5×7 or a multitude of other sizes: 5×5, 5×4, 5×3, 3.5×4.5, 3×4, 2.5×3.  The prints come out of the printer with a protective coating to keep water, fingerprints, dust, and scratches from ruining your photos.

Beyond the printer in the digital picture frame department, you’ll find the usual card reader (SD, MS, MMC, XD, CF card) and *maybe* a USB port.  I say maybe since the Prinics website calls it a “USB memory card”.  The 7″ frame has a display resolution of 800×480.  The 8″ frame may have the same resolution, but that’s unclear as well.

The frame GUI supports 10 languages (English, French, German, Korean, Portuguese, Holland, Italian, Spanish, Russian, Greek) and it comes with a remote control.

The 8″ unit is available in 3 flavors: white with a flower print (PFP-8W), black with flower print (PFP-8B), and all black (PFP-8PB).  The 7″ unit is available in black (PFP-7PB) and red (PFP-7R).
