Turn Your TV Into a Digital Picture Frame – Sort Of

Shaw Communications, a cable company in Canada, will soon start offering a high-definition channel that displays still images, more or less allowing your television to become a digital picture frame. Is there a more flagrant waste of power and precious display panel hours than something of this nature?
“The Frame will turn your TV into a virtual picture frame where photographs and artwork from around the globe will be featured to deliver stunning visuals 24-hours a day. When your neighbours and guests see this, they will be envious,” said Peter Bissonnette, President, Shaw Communications. “The popularity of our Holiday Fire Log video, the Turkey TV video and the Christmas Tree video inspired this fresh approach.”
I have to admit, being in the US, I missed the apparently classic “fire log” but I can picture it in my mind. Perhaps we’re being too tough on Shaw, but really, aside from putting this channel on during a party, there’s really no reason to burn up your HDTV panel on something of this nature.
If this sounds great to you though, then by all means, tune in today for the exclusive debut in Calgary on Shaw HD channel 225. It will then be launched in other major markets in September 2008.
