Digital Picture Frame Forecasts Get Trimmed

Written on Jun 19, 2008 by Brian and filed under News

According to a report from DigiTimes, digital picture frame display panel manufacturers are forecasting at least a 25% reduction in shipments this year. A sharp decline in shipments in the first quarter of 2008 paint a slower growth plan for digital frame sales. Of course the economy and weak Mother’s Day sales are to blame.

In 2007 panel manufacturers had estimated shipping 20 million displays for digital picture frames. Now estimates are being revised down to 15 million, which some think is still too high. Panel manufacturers do see an increase in small format panel demand for mobile computing devices like tiny notebook computers and portable Internet devices though. There’s no expectation that the decreased demand for frames will have any impact on display panel cost, which is the most expensive component of any digital frame. [DigiTimes]
